For free, open and democratic Universities! The Universitätsgesetz 2002 (UG02, university law 2002) is a disaster already. Now Minister Hahn (ÖVP) plans a reform of UG. On that course of action, much is going to be even worse. The Green & Alternative Students (GRAS) do not just observe these issues. Campaign http://www.wirwollendasunigesetz.net delivers information about the reform of UG, declares the positions of GRAS and activates to protesting against Hahn's plans! Tuition fees Hahn is responsible for several tightenings against foreign students: People from non-EEA-countries must pay as much tuition fees as the universities want. Currently students from non-EEA-countries have to pay double tution fees already, that amount is unlimited prospectively. Allowing that, Hahn drives foreign students into the poverty trap. And if it goes the rectors' way, tution fees are unlimitied for all students in Austria soon.
GRAS demands abolishing tution fees! Barriers Hahns want Master- and PhD-studies to introduce arbitrary "qualitative" barriers: Knock-out-tests are going to be the norm. Hahn also installs quantiative barriers: Prospectively only 10% of students are allowed to attend specific master studies
Hahns retains barriers in eight diploma studies and continues destroying students' dreams of absolving their favourite branch of study. At the same time universities are being starved financially and students suffer from catastrophic conditions at universities. Funding public universities must finally be a priority of the government. GRAS demands abolishing barriers to studies and increasing funds of universities! Democracy at universities Minister Gehrer once said: "Democracy is not a value of its own". Hahn takes the consequence and absolishes democracy at universities. The Senat is disempowered and becomes an agency of Unirat and Rektorat. By this, participation of all university members is repealed.
GRAS demands absolishing Uniräte and introducing parity among students, academic staff and professors in the Senat. |
